The header and footer of the University Web templates incorporate all elements required by the Publishing Information on the WWW policy and the Use of the University's Trademarks, Logos, Color, and Seal policy and follow online standards and best practices.
All campuses, colleges, departments, and unts conducting official University of Minnesota business on umn.edu Web sites must use and official Web header and footer. A "umn.edu Web site" is a site that represents a campus, college, unit, department, or center, or anything representing official University business. Informal activities conducted on personal Web space are exempt from using the header and footer.

The Web template header is composed of the campus links in the top right; the block M, wordmark, and Driven to Discover graphic; the One Stop and myU graphic buttons; and the search bar.
The University wordmark is the official logo and must appear on all electronic University publications. The wordmark should not* appear anywhere else on a site.
Driven to Discover reinforces the University's initiative to convey the benefits of a public research university to the state and help the U reach its goal of becoming one of the top three public research universities in the world. An alternate header without Driven to Discover is available for download for special circumstances.
* The wordmark may be used within a Web page when combined with the Driven to Discover campaign. See the question and answer templates on the Driven to Discover Brand Guidelines site for more information.
The Web templates incorporate the wordmark at its minimum size for use in electronic publications—220 pixels wide. There is a standard 'N' buffer space around all elements.
Use of the templates ensures proper placement of the wordmark and promotes a consistency that helps visitors be sure they are still on a U of M site as they move about our Web space.
Always use the graphics and colors included with the template downloads. Never change the color of the block M, wordmark, Driven to Discover, or background color. Never create alternative versions of the template header.

The Web template footer combines elements required based on the Publishing on the WWW policy and links to commonly requested campus information.
The footer links must be used 'as is.' If your unit would like to add unit-specific information in the footer area, please use the unit footer option.
A systemwide footer is available for sites that provide systemwide information. Please contact University Relations to get the approved links.
